Egerton St & King St Construction

What work will be happening during this project?

Construction will be occurring in the Egerton Street and King Street areas in 2018. The scope of this project will include:

  • installation of sanitary sewers and services;
  • installation of storm sewers;
  • installation of watermain and individual water services to property line where
    applicable;
  • full road reconstruction including new asphalt, curb and gutter, and sidewalk; and,
  • inclusion of underground works by Bell Canada who has infrastructure needs.

In addition, the following new features will be incorporated into this project:

  • new sidewalk on the west side of Egerton Street; and,
  • new on-road bicycle lanes on both sides of Egerton Street.

Most of the existing infrastructure dates from the 1900s to the 1920s. The historical Egerton double trunk sewer has reached the end of its life expectancy.

Surface drainage will be improved on King Street by replacing the existing storm sewer, which serves only half of the block, and extending the new storm sewer for the full length of the block. There are two watermains on this project, one of which is 1900s cast iron with potential lead services, and the other which is 1967 concrete pressure pipe.

The projects starts in April and will run until late October 2018. The top asphalt coat will be applied in the spring of 2019 during the final project completion. Blu-Con Construction is the contractor for this project. The budget for the project is $6,379,736, which is party funded by the federal gas tax ($1,928,165).

Businesses remain open during construction. The expected timeline is as follows:

  • Stage 1A - Egerton St. (from Dundas St. to York St.) and King Street (from Egerton St. to Kellogg Lane) will be reconstructed from 9 April 2018 to mid-July 2018.
  • Stage 1B - York Street to Florence will be reconstructed between mid-June 2018 to late August 2018.
  • Stage 2 - Egerton Street between Florance and CN tracks will be reconstructed mid-August to late October 2018.

Check the Renew London web site for ongoing updates on the project timeline.

How will construction impact you?

There may be minor interruptions to residents' water supply during this connection and again when connecting to the new watermain but residents will be notified at least 24 hours in advance.

How will this affect the streets and surrounding neighbourhoods?

Streets and surrounding areas that will be affected include:

  • Egerton Street and King Street — Closed to through traffic, open to local traffic.
  • Egerton Street from Florence Street to south of CN Tracks

Work will typically take place from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Please keep the residents who live on adjoining streets in mind when detouring around the construction areas.
