Temporary Traffic Calming near Oxford and Adelaide

What is the problem?

Bell Canada needs to do work on one of its manholes in the intersection of Oxford St and Adelaide St. As a result, there will be turning restrictions in the intersection: no left turns in any direction and no right turn from Oxford St to Adelaide heading Westbound. This disruption is expected to last until the first week of September.

Residents are concerned about the high speed of vehicles detouring through the residential neighbourhoods nearby, including Balmoral, St. James, Brant, Elliott, Grosvenor, Elizabeth and McMahen St.

What can I do?

Temporary traffic calming measures are sometimes deployed by the city in residential neighbourhoods impacted by detouring vehicles.

Yes please add calming measures to our street is a must. Traffic is too fast on our street on a normal day. Now with frustrated drivers trying to get around it, there will be even more speeding vehicles. Lots of kids play in this neighbourhood. I would like to see more measures taken on this street for a permanent basis! McMahen Street

Temporary traffic calming is an absolute necessity. But our street needs permanent traffic calming. Like St. James has. West of Adelaide. Cars race through our quiet neighbourhood.

Our street is constantly used as a means of people by-passing the light at Mcnay and Oxford. For the last 6 years people speed down our street to get to cheapside. Now with the construction right at Oxford and Mcnay, it’s worse then ever. Please put up temporary or permanent signs in these areas.

We live on Elliott St and people already drive down our street very quickly. A lot of young children live in our area and most of them have to cross Elliott St to get to the park. I would love to see a 3 way stop on Elliott and St. James so they can’t get going so fast. I am concerned that during the construction we will have an increase in traffic and speeding down our streets so some form of traffic calming would be much appreciated. I would hate for someone to be hurt or killed playing outside.

Make sure William south of oxford gets the calming measures. A stop sign at Piccadilly on William would be a good idea

Young children at risk with greater volume of cars SPEEDING down side streets. St James always is an issue during peak times but now it happens at anytime. Current speed bumps not helping.
